Mega Man Level V1

Mega Man Level V1

My Mega Man Level consisted of 7 different zones, with 9 individual rooms.  Overall, the playtesters enjoyed my level. They thought that the pacing was good, and the enemies were present enough to be a threat, but not overbearing. Levels taught players specific game functions. For instance that falling blocks can kill you or that you are able to change the direction of a slide to dodge while there are blocks above your head. The level was very linear with one major branch, but one playtesters said that even though this is true, it still felt as if the player was making a choice of where to go.

The biggest issue with my level is probably playtime. A run only really lasted about 2-5 minutes on average. This was mostly due to the level's linear nature, and not having enough rooms to play through.

Now for a couple of examples of the rooms and what players should do.

In this part of the level, players are introduced to dust blocks. Once they break the top brown, players can take a leap of faith into the quicksand after breaking some blocks.

After the players take the leap of faith, they head down to a hidden area. Here they have to do some falling block parkour in order to get the health block, if they mess up, it is likely they will take damage from the enemy charging below.

Another parkour area, but this time there are normal blocks instead of calling ones. Again, falling down leads to likely damage.

Lastly, the slide level. Players must slide in order to progress. When they do, an enemy will shoot bullets in all directions and players can move left and right while sliding to dodge. This teaches players that when sliding with a block above them, they continue to slide, and that you can change direction mid slide.
